I thought this was an interesting and useful infographic highlighting the growing U.S. solar manufacturing business. Right now, it shows a $5.6 billion industry that imports $3.75 billion, for a $1.9 billion trade surplus.

We are net positive with respect to China in exports. China still buys it’s equipment and polysilicon from the U.S. The areas in which the U.S. lag are manufacturing the cells and panels.
One thing to keep in perspective is that about half the revenues from solar are the so-called “soft” costs involving installation.
Kind of refutes the pessimism following the Solyndra banktrupcy, doesn’t it?
